What is a dental emergency?

If you are experiencing severe pain, excessive bleeding, or a tooth that has been knocked out, it’s considered a dental emergency. Drs. Anwar and Cheng offer state-of-the-art treatment for the following emergencies:

  • Broken or lost veneer, bridge, or crown
  • Broken or loose implant
  • Abscess or infection
  • A severe toothache
  • Loose tooth
  • Knocked out tooth

When there is a dental emergency, it is important that you contact Fresh Smiles Family Dentistry as quickly as possible. This can be the difference between saving a lost tooth.

How can I tell if I have a tooth infection?

Dental pain can become excruciatingly difficult to live with. If you experience any dental trauma or gum disease, look out for the following symptoms:

  • Pain when chewing
  • Foul breath
  • Redness and swelling of the gums
  • A severe toothache
  • Swollen jaw

A bacterial infection can cause an abscess at different regions of your tooth, resulting in a pocket of pus. It is important you schedule an examination because your infection may spread from the root of your tooth to the surrounding bones.

Drs. Anwar and Cheng conduct an emergency exam of the affected area to determine the extent and potential causes of your symptoms in order to avoid any permanent damage.

What do I do if my tooth is knocked out?

You can help save your tooth if it is knocked out by firstly applying pressure to stop the bleeding. Following this, be careful not to touch the root of the tooth and try to reposition your tooth into its socket right away.

If this does not work, place it between your gum and cheek to keep it moist. As a last resort, you can place your tooth in milk. Do not place your tooth in tap water, as it can ruin any chances of saving your tooth.

If you believe you’re experiencing a dental emergency, call Fresh Smiles Family Dentistry today or schedule an appointment online.
